Dealing with Bullying and Harassment in the Workplace
Some of us are lucky enough to enjoy our jobs, but unfortunately for most of us, going to work is something we just have to do!
Dealing with Bullying & Harrassment at Work
Work can be hard enough sometimes without someone trying to purposely make it worse for you, whether it be your boss or a fellow employee trying to undermine or humiliate you on a regular basis.

Here are some tips on how to cope with harassment or bullying in the workplace.

Take Back Control
Recognise that you are being bullied. Stay calm and try not to allow yourself to be a target.
Keep a diary of the incidents. Include the date, the time and exactly what happened. Note any witnesses and keep all the evidence.

Try to be assertive with the bully, but be professional. Don't bring yourself down to their level and avoid being alone with the bully. Ask them why they did or said what they did and simply ask them not to do it again.

Then if they continue, speak to your Line Manager, either formally or informally.

Follow the Company Grievance Procedure
Know about your employers policies regarding harassemt and bullying and their grievance procedure, with the support of your HR Manager or Union Officer.

If the harassment continues, follow the grievance procedure, keeping your complaint objective.

Don't go through it alone
Speak to your family and friends as they will be a great emotional support to you. Talk to your collegues and you could even get in touch with a support group. You'd be surprised to find out how many other people are in a similar position to you.
