New Year Job Resolutions

It doesn't matter how long you've been in your job - sometimes it feels like there's never a good time to consider leaving, but the New Year could be that perfect time!
Here are a few tips to make sure your job search is a success:
New Year Job Resolutions
Consider your options before you make your mind up
Is leaving really what you want? Have you explored all the other avenues that your company may have to offer? Write a list of reasons why you think you want to leave your job. Determine whether you be financially better off in terms of money and location? Would you still consider leaving if your boss offered you a pay rise?

The Resignation
Once you have decided to resign, you need to think about how you are going to inform your boss! You can tell them in person by resigning orally or send them a letter of resignation. Sending a letter gives you more control and time to decide what you want to say. Your resignation letter only really needs to include your name, the date, notice of your intentions, when the termination of contract is effective from and your signature. If you are leaving on good terms, you may like to thank your boss for all the opportunities they have given you. If you are leaving on bad terms, it's best to keep it simple!

Market Yourself
Make sure your CV is up to date and ensure that you have an attention grabbing Personal Statement! Your CV is designed to get you an interview over all the other applicants. Highlight your professional atributes and give a clear account of yourself - you want them to read the rest of your CV!

Leaving on Good Terms
Make sure you leave plenty of notice to allow a handover to take place. The notice period is normally stated in your contract, otherwise talk to your HR Manager. Negotiate any outstanding holiday and salary. Make sure you have completed any outstanding or unfinished work for your successor and leave a nice tidy desk!
