What does a Wedding Planner do?
A Wedding Planner helps couples who are getting married plan their big day, taking some of the stress off them.

They can do everything from helping find a suitable venue, through to sourcing suppliers for cakes and favours. The Wedding Planner will help co-ordinate all the staff and guests on the big day and make sure everything runs smoothly.
What skills do I need?
A Wedding Planner will need good interpersonal skills and will need to understand what each couple wants for their big day.
They will need good organisational skills and be able to forward plan, well ahead of time. They also need to be budget conscious - keeping track of money spent and making sure that bills to suppliers are paid on time.
How will I get clients?
It can be difficult to get clients when you are first setting out, as many planners are hired through recommendations.
One of the best ways is to advertise your services online, as many couples these days tend to organise everything this way. You can also go along and advertise at wedding fayres at local hotels and venues.
What qualifications do I need?
You don't need any qualifications to become a Wedding Planner, but you do need to ensure that you have the right skills for the job. There are courses you can take, run by the UK Alliance of Wedding Planners.
These are two day courses (run separately). Day one is an introduction to wedding planning and how to set up a business and day two is more practical, where you can feedback for your ideas.
Is wedding planning a seasonal job?
Wedding planning is seasonal, the busiest months being between May and October. December is also a popular month, although weddings are taking place throughout the year, especially if a venue is very popular.
I would like to become a Wedding Planner. How much can I expect to earn?
A Wedding Planners salary very much depends on what the planner does and where abouts they work.
For example, the cost of living in London is higher than some other areas, so people expect to pay more for a wedding. Some planners will do everything for their clients from start to finish, sourcing all the suppliers etc, therefore will charge more. It really varies from wedding to wedding.
